Blogging Five Years On

Today marks five years since I first decided to start properly blogging, I've gone from badly written fashion blog to what I think is a well rounded lifestyle blog. I have learned so much about writing and have truly found my voice. To be honest I thought professional bloggers only wrote about fashion, even though I followed people like Belle Du Jour who definitely didn't write about fashion! Simply put blogging is my life, its the reason I'm still fighting and in an extreme case I might not even be here if it wasn't for my blog. I started blogging as an escape from my life and as a coping strategy to rebuild my life after a very dark period and its safe to say it has definitely saved me.

Some of you may remember Mon Polkadot Cheri, but chances are you don't. Starting out in 2009 I knew I wanted to write but never had a clear image of my own writing style. I thought I had to write in a certain way or about certain things. My original baby got me to some amazing places such as London Fashion Week, but seeing what fashion was really like upset me and I didn't like the person it was making me either. So I stopped blogging in summer of 2012, but I missed it so much! I kept writing on tumblr and microblogged but I couldn't resist the pull of blogging and had to make a comeback. For me the break was just what I needed, I had time to reevaluate what I wanted to write about and knew that I had to focus on my passion. And that's what you see today.

I cannot believe how much the community has grown, especially on twitter. The social media site was only two years old when I started out and boy has it grown too! Quite simply there wasn't a twitter community and the twitter chats have only been going for about two years. Don't get me wrong, I made some amazing blogging friends when I blogged the first time round but I have made even more in the past year and a little bit. What I also love now is that almost everyone in my personal life has some form of blog and have discovered the wonderful world of blogging.

I would urge any new bloggers to keep going, keep building and keep learning. You will grow on so many levels. I am so glad that I started blogging and I hope in 5 years time that you will feel the same way.
